We all know that water is important to prevent dehydration. However, some recent research has found an important role for water in weight management. Drinking water results in a lower total energy intake when consumed in place of beverages containing calories such as soft drinks and juice.
These calories don’t tend to be made up for by eating more of other foods in the water drinkers; which can help to control weight. Research also shows that drinking water increases fat oxidation (use), which also aids in weight control. Our advice: avoid soft drinks, choose fruit over juice, save sports drinks for training and choose water most of the time.
