VIS Nutrition Tip 15 – Porridge



There is nothing more satisfying on a winters morning than a bowl of porridge, and fortunately just what the body needs heading into the colder months.

Oats contain a fibre called beta glucans which has antimicrobial properties and a good source of antioxidants. One study showed that participants consuming beta glucans daily reduced the incidence of upper respiratory infections compared to those not taking the fibre supplement.

Barley also contains this fantastic fibre and works great in a warm winter soup. Beta Glucans are also beneficial to your heart health by actively removing cholesterol from the blood stream, and eliminating it from the body.

What a clever fibre!
