National Age Development

The National Age Development Squad is the entry level squad in the performance pathway and assists athletes to perform at the Victorian Age and Australian Age Championship meets. Athletes are primarily 12-14 years of age and attend 5-6 sessions per week with participants developing all aspects of stroke technique, fitness levels and race skills to prepare for competition.

Entry into the squad is by invite from the Coach of the National Age Development squad in consultation with the Head Coach. Athletes must demonstrate high levels of commitment and performance to maintain their place within the squad with squad re-selections completed after the major performance championships throughout the year.

TRAINING BREAKS

The following proposed training breaks are planned for National Age Development Squad

  • Last training session on Sunday 17 December 2017 and training recommences on Monday 8 January 2018.
  • Last day of summer season is post Australian Age Championships on Wednesday 25 April 2018 and training recommences on Monday 14 May 2018.

From Monday 9 October 2017 to 17 December 2017, the National Age Development Squad will train as per the table below.

POOL LOCATIONS

The training venues are located at:

  • Aqualink Nunawading: Fraser Place, Forest Hill (Nuna)
  • Tintern Grammar: Enter school grounds at Cnr Loma & Morinda Streets, East Ringwood
  • Caulfield Grammar: 74-82 Jells Road, Wheelers Hill

COMPETITIONS

The National Age Development squad competes in a number of competitions throughout the year including- Australian Age Championships (where qualified), Victorian Age SC and LC Championships, Victorian Sprint Championships, Club Championships, All Junior competition, District Championships and selected qualifying meets throughout the season.

In term 4 2017 the National Age Development squad will compete in the following competitions;

Victorian Sprint Championships (optional)- 18th & 19th November 2017
Victorian Qualifying meet– 25th & 26th November 2017
Victorian Age Championships– 10th-15th December 2017
Victorian Open Water Championships– Sunday 17th December 2017

Information in regards to squad monthly fees, adjustments to accounts for serious injuries or illness and Year 12 students support can be found at Squad Fees.

COMMUNICATION

If a swimmer or parent has any questions or concerns, they are asked to speak to Coach Sarah Scott as their first point of call.

CLUB UNIFORM

When swimmers represent the club at swim meets, and compete against members from other clubs, it is a requirement to wear our club uniform. More information on uniform and how to purchase it can be found HERE

SQUAD PATHWAYS

There are three squads that swimmers in the National Age Development Squad can progress to:

State Youth Squad – Swimmers who:

  • have consistently attended all required sessions per week as prescribed by the coach
  • have demonstrated the ability to learn and apply new techniques and skill
  • will normally be 13+ years of age
  • have consistently attended competitions as prescribed by the coach
  • are physically and mentally ready for the move

National Squads – Swimmers who:

  • are invited by the Head Coach
  • have consistently attended all required sessions per week as prescribed by the coach
  • have demonstrated the ability to learn and apply new technique and skill
  • will normally be 14+ years of age
  • have consistently attended competitions as prescribed by the coach
  • are physically and mentally ready for the increase in commitment

Armstrong Squad – Swimmers who:

  • want to continue swimming for general fitness
  • are not showing commitment to practice and competition as set out by the coach
  • are 13+ years of age and do not have a qualifying time for Victorian Age Championships

Progressions from the National Age Development Squad can take place at any time.

Athlete progressions will be decided by the relevant coaches within the coaching team
