Hanson Squads

The Hanson Squad program provides a transition from learn to swim lessons to a competitive squad environment.  The squad caters for athletes primarily aged between 7 and 9 years of age who are beginning their competitive swimming journey in a fun, friendly and educational environment.

Hanson Squad sessions focus on:

  • Developing the foundation of competitive technique in all four strokes
  • Developing the foundation of competitive skill in all four strokes
  • Developing an understanding of how to function in a squad environment
  • Introducing participants to competition in a low pressure and educating way

Swimmers attend two ‘one hour’ sessions each week during school terms.

Hanson squads are conducted at Nunawading, Tintern and Wesley with all 3 squads leading into either the Wesley or Tintern Junior squads for those that remain within the competition pathway.

Two of the most important aspects of being involved in the Nunawading Swimming Club is good communication between the coach, swimmer and parents and the effective distribution of information to families by the coach and the club.

Regular meetings will be held for each squad where the coach will provide information to parents and swimmers including competition schedules.

If a swimmer or parent has any questions or concerns, they are asked to speak to their coach.  If after working through the issue there is still a problem, they are asked to contact the Head Coach, Dean Bryant at

The Club has a number of ways of communicating with you.
