Nunawading Swimming Club is excited to announce that former Club Head Coach from 1980-2000 and National Youth and Head Coach of Swimming Australia from 2000-2013, Leigh Nugent has taken up a Coach Education and Mentoring role with the Club in 2017.
The role will see Leigh working with the junior coaching staff at Nunawading to assist in improving the structure and delivery of quality coaching in the junior levels of our program.
In announcing Leigh’s appointment, Club CEO Gary Barclay said “Securing Leigh in this role will assist in the development of our coaches and swimmers. Leigh’s knowledge and experience will assist their growth and development. Our coaches are our biggest assets within our squad program and each coach can positively influence so many swimmers. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Leigh, also known as Nugget, has taken on the role to complement work he is doing for Swimming Australia in South Australia and Western Australia.
Key aspects of Leigh’s coach consultancy role will include:
a. Attend sessions with coaches of junior squads to observe their coaching and swimmer performance and provide on-going feedback to them.
b. Attend selected junior meets throughout the year to observe, provide advice to and work with Nunawading coaches.
c. Conduct coaching workshops for Nunawading coaching staff and upper level swim teachers.
d. Attend learn to swim sessions to observe interactions and teachings and then provide feedback to individuals or the Manager as deemed appropriate.
e. Assist in educating swim school staff in talent identification.
We welcome Nugget back to Nunawading.
